Hackers broke into an European server of Taiwan computer maker Acer over the weekend, compromising the data of some 40,000 users and source codes.

A report on The Hacker News said the "Pakistan Cyber Army" (PCA) was likely behind the data breach at Acer Europe (

"We got mail from PCA that they successfully hacked the FTP of ACER and Stole around 40,000 Users Data, various source codes stored on server," the Hacker News article said.

The Hacker News also posted screenshots of what it said were the "hack," as provided by the PCA.

It said these included user data copied from the server; FTP access on; and 40,000 customers' data.

While The Hacker News said PCA had not disclosed the motive for the hack, the hacker group may leak data with a press release in the next 24 hours.

The hack was the latest in a series of incidents involving large companies including Sony Pictures and Google's Gmail.

On the other hand, The Hacker News said the PCA had also been linked to an attack on India's Railway email system last April.
